England U16: Debut for Fran Stenson
Birmingham City Ladies Tier 1 Regional Talent Club under 16 Goalkeeper Frances Stenson, made her England under 16 debut on Wednesday evening playing in a 2-1 win for the young Lionesses against Norway.
Frances had been a part of the EPC and NPC camps in previous years within the Elite Girl’s Talent Pathway run by the Football Association and is into her 2nd season with Birmingham City Ladies.
Head of Goalkeeping Development, Andy Elleray commented, ‘having worked with Fran for 3 years now she has worked tirelessly on and off the pitch on all areas of goalkeeping and is making great strides week upon week during training. Not just on the technical skills, but all aspects of goalkeeping – I’m lucky enough to have a fantastic technical director in Marc Skinner who has given me the backing to not only do 2 pitch based sessions per week, but also an extra night just for the goalkeepers where we look at videos of training/matches, communication, set plays and developing specific physical attributes – and this is showing it’s benefit not only with Fran but our other goalkeepers as well.’
‘Examples of Fran and also Hannah Hampton who has been with the England under 17s this season give our younger Regional Talent Club goalkeepers a role model to aspire to and show that with the right attitude and dedication you can progress onto great things’.
The club as a whole would like to congratulate Frances on selection and follows in the footsteps of Sophie Baggaley, who has been part of the England under 20s side and recently received a call up to the senior side.
